Constable Gilbert’s February, 2025 Report

Transportation

The second month of 2025 and of my term included 136 Transport Events. The majority of these trips were to and from work, but 31 of them were for medical and legal appointments. There were others who requested transportation, but could not be scheduled. We need volunteers who can meet the needs that I cannot. If you would like to help, contact me at the number below.

Broken Windows Policing WITHOUT Police

I wrote 83 letters to folks who were listed for code violations. One in ten were returned because of bad addresses but I was able to visit with many of them. There are problems with Code Enforcement, but I believe the officers enforcing the code are working to keep the city safe and clean. In a few cases I worked with property owners who said they were unaware of the violation and in every case, except one, they were willing and able to cure the violation. That one exception was an out of town property owner who could not board up windows on their vacant house. Fortunately, I was able to connect him with Rusbel Rivera who contracted to do the work the same day. I have been unable to find a reliable way to identify violations involving low income residents who struggle to abate violations. Discussions with CE officers about how the system works lead me to believe that Environmental Court may be the key to finding out how prevalent the problem is and an ultimate solution.

STOP Unsolicited Phone Solicitations

In February’s 28 days I logged more than 143 personal telephone calls from companies that I doubt are legitimate businesses. I certainly had not asked them to call me. I encourage anyone who finds those solicitations as irritating as I do, to keep a record of them. Perhaps we can find a way to encourage them to stop their intrusive business practices.

Constable’s Listening Tour

It would be a pleasure to meet with you to discuss my concerns, and more importantly, to hear from you about things that concern you, but are not being addressed. Contact me at any time. I want to hear from you and to help in any way that I can.
