Transportation
In May more than 100 individual trips were carried to work and home, shopping, legal and medical appointments. I am reducing these transports to meet other obligations. That is unfortunate, as there are many others who needed transportation, but could not be scheduled. If you would like to help, please contact me at the number below.
Broken Windows Policing WITHOUT Police
In the month of May, I was able to attend three sessions of the City of Little Rock’s Environmental Court. I am still unable to find consistent information about individuals who may be financially unable or stressed to meet the requirements of Code Enforcement violations that ultimately wind up in this Court if not abated. Troubling questions concerning the system of violations, fines and collection remain unresolved for me and I will continue
investigating.
Training in Law Enforcement Procedures and Practices
I have no desire to wear a uniform, carry a badge or write citations. However, the Arkansas Commission on Law Enforcement Standards & Training provides hundreds of on-line classes on topics related to police authority and I have taken and passed 40+ hours of them. The relationship between police agencies, the public and the courts has changed dramatically in my lifetime. The classes have helped me more clearly understand some of those changes. So far, the most interesting information I have found concerns “qualified immunity” as it relates to officers of the law. If you have questions or concerns about policing in your community, give me a call.
STOP Unsolicited Phone Solicitations
May was a stellar month for unsolicited calls. More than twice as many such calls were logged on my personal phone than in April. The contacts were from folks who wanted money from me for services and products or what I am sure are outright scams. Most of the increase, I believe, is from the fact that I was able to accept and screen more calls than usual. If you are interested in documenting, and perhaps limiting, these nuisance calls let me know.
Constable’s Listening Tour
It would be a pleasure to meet with you to discuss my concerns, and more importantly, to hear from you about things that concern you. Contact me at any time. I want to hear from you and to help in any way that I can.
